The Register-Guard, 24 Mar 2012 - Safe and legal access to marijuana is a needed step that helps communicate compassion among human beings who are often dominated by the mind and are taken over by problems and conflict. Any adult, especially severely disabled adults, should never have to face penalties for the personal use of medicine.

Eugene Weekly, 08 Mar 2012 - Recently the governors of Washington, Rhode Island and Colorado petitioned the Drug Enforcement Agency to reschedule cannabis to Schedule II. So far Gov. Kitzhaber has yet to join this bicoastal effort. Our governor has drug policy schizophrenia - supporting both the National Governors' Association policy of encouraging federal drug enforcement and the Western Governors' Association resolution that states should make drug policy - not Uncle Sam.

The Register-Guard, 03 Mar 2012 - I appreciated the publication of "Cannabis activists are ready to say 'no Obama' " by Jim Greig (Feb. 29). Which candidate we vote for only matters come that day in November. Until then, I'm going to join Greig and just say "no" to President Obama. The drug war (and the marijuana issue is but a part of that) is ruining us. We have spent more than $1 trillion waging the drug war, and it has failed.

The Register-Guard, 29 Feb 2012 - "...rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual." - Thomas Jefferson A movement in drug policy circles is afoot in this election season that so far has flown under the media's radar but holds the potential to be a game-changer.

The Herald, 20 Feb 2012 - PORTLAND, Ore. -- Twice in the past two years, Gary Storck has boarded Amtrak's Empire Builder outside his hometown of Madison, Wis., and headed west to Oregon. The trip takes about 40 hours and costs more than $1,000 -- all for something that makes the illegal legal. He pays a visit to one of the state's 15 or so medical marijuana clinics, fills out an application and sees a doctor. Storck walks out an hour later, the proud holder of an Oregon-issued medical marijuana card. It's a process he'll have to go through each year to keep the card.

Bandon Western World, 16 Feb 2012 - BANDON - Students may soon be required to participate in a drug-testing program in order to play on a sports team or participate in an activity at Bandon High School. The policy, if adopted, would be one of only two used in high schools on the South Coast. The Port Orford School District has had a random drug-testing policy for athletes for at least eight years, according to BHS Athletic Director James Freitag. No other South Coast schools have such policies, Freitag said.
